

Jewell was the daughter of the late Robert Edward and Mary Jane Hancock Mahle and was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 55 years, Julian Ray DeLay. She is survived her by son and daughter-in-law, John and Connie DeLay; her grandson, Bronson DeLay; her sister and closest confidante, Mary Frances Reynolds and brother-in-law, James Reynolds. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Annie Ruth Mahle and Grace Mahle; numerous nieces and nephews; her long-time friends and traveling companions, Charlie and Lynda Arnold and Modean McElhannon, as well as her cherished church family.
Jewell was the longest active member of Ray’s United Methodist Church in Bishop, GA, having joined the church in July 1944 and serving faithfully for 67 years. She was active in the Ray’s UMC ladies’ group – the “CIA’s” and the UMW group at Johnson’s United Methodist Church in Watkinsville.
Funeral services will be held at 2PM Thursday, September 29th in the chapel at Bernstein Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Varnado officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-9PM Wednesday, September 28th at Bernstein.
Pallbearers will be Reece Cooper, Dennis Flanagan, Greg Meeler, Wayne Self, Harold Townley, and Allen Wheeler. Honorary pallbearers will be all members of the Ray’s UMC mens’ group.
Flowers are optional. Memorials may be made to the Ray’s United Methodist Church Building Fund, 1521 Ray’s Church Rd, Bishop, GA 30621.
