Bobbie McKeller, born December 16, 1939, in Donalsonville, GA, died peacefully in her sleep of congestive heart failure on Sunday, March 10, 2024, at home in Athens, GA. Bobbie had an incredible and varied life for a farm girl from a small south Georgia town. While in high school she and her steer won a Future Farmers of America award for “Grand Champion Fat Cattle Show” and had her photo taken with legendary Governor Herman Talmadge. Bobbie graduated from LaGrange College and spent one year attending college in Aix-en-Provence, France. It was there that she develops her love of French cuisine and culture.
After college, Bobbie settled with her lifelong husband Bill in Athens, GA, where she taught French at UGA and raised her family. As her children got older, she moved to Athens Academy where she taught French for several years. In 1982, Bobbie retired from teaching and joined Coldwell Banker Upchurch Realty, where she was one of the top selling small-market real estate agents in the state during her 33-year career. Through her career, Bobbie served as a generous colleague and mentor for numerous Upchurch agents. Over the years, she was very active in the Athens community, involved in Rotary Club and League of Women voters.
Bobbie is survived by her children: Jennifer, Michael, and Mark; grandchildren: Macy and Evan; and her brother, Lamar.
