Born in Charlotte, NC on November 30th 1952, Mr. Godfrey is the son of the late Carl Dewitt Godfrey, Jr. and Shirleen Dixon Godfrey Bahamian Missionaries. Seeking God’s plan for his own life, he entered Word of Life Institute in Schroon Lake, NY. From there, he attended Tennessee Temple University and graduated from Chattanooga State during which he met his beloved wife Carlene in 1975. Moving to Athens in 1982 with his wife and sons, he quickly involved himself in the community spreading his love of God through mission work and his membership to Joy Baptist Church since 1983. A role model and mentor, he served as Scout Master for his sons’ Boy Scout troops helping 13 young men achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. A great man in all his achievements, it was his devotion to God, family and unbridled joy for life that impacted everyone he encountered.
