Carol was born December 27, 1934 to Frank and Helen Whalen in Wheatland, Pennsylvania.
She relocated to Athens, Georgia in 1958 and in the mid 70’s was the proud owner of a candy shop in Alps Shopping Center. Her white chocolate bulldogs were a fan favorite.
She retired from the UGA School of Animal and Poultry Science where she worked as a secretary. She and George enjoyed traveling to many places in the U.S. and around the world including the Caribbean, Russia, Scandinavia, England, and Ireland. Family meant everything to Carol, and she loved when the children and grandchildren gathered for holidays and special occasions. She was an exceptional cook and always made sure there was amazing food for every event. Despite her declining health in the past few years, her captivating smile always welcomed anyone who came in the door.
She is survived by her husband of 34 years, George Granade; daughters, Mary Ann (Alan) McTier, Christie (Jeff) Copeland, Nancy (Antonio) Arata; sons, Billy (Allison) Craig and Bob Craig; grandchildren, Corey (Melissa) Ripley, Chaz (Kelsey) Ripley, Melody McTier, Molly McTier, Sam Copeland, Christopher Copeland, Annie Copeland, Jake Arata, John Arata, and Olivia Arata. She is preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Colleen Scarvel; and her brother, Jerry Whalen.
Visitation will be at 1:00 PM, Sunday, November 14 at Bernstein Funeral Home followed by a funeral service in the chapel at 2:00 PM. Graveside service to follow at Evergreen Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Chapelwood UMC, 100 Janice Drive, Athens, GA 30606.
