

Celeada Gay Cochran, 75, of Athens, Ga., went to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, October 27, 2017. She was born March 18, 1942 in Fancy Gap, Va., the daughter of the late Carlie Columbus and Irene Snow Hawks. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Wade Stuart Cochran.
She was a supportive military wife, following her husband most everywhere he was stationed. She especially enjoyed the years at the Naval Base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and had her first job in banking there. She continued her banking career when the family moved to Georgia, and worked 28 years as a teller, then branch manager at SunTrust. She loved people and received so much joy from caring for her customers.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Douglas Wade and Loretta Jean Cochran of Carlton, GA; son, Gregory Wayne Cochran of Bishop, GA; daughter, Jeanine Gay Cochran of Athens, GA; beloved grandsons, TSgt Douglas Wade Cochran, Jr., Ramstein, Germany and his wife, SSgt Hazel Bolivia Cochran; Sgt James Weston Cochran, Paris, France; great-grandsons Damian Douglas and Dominic Russell Cochran, Ramstein, Germany; her brother and sister-in-law Saford and Caroline Hawks, Asheboro, NC; sister-in-laws, Christine Hawks, Asheboro, NC; Joyce Fulford, Bradenton, FL; Betty Gallagher, Hillsville, VA; and numerous nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, October 31, 2017 in the chapel at Bernsteins Funeral Home, with Pastor Howard Conine officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m. on Monday, October 30, 2017.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Research Association.
