

Dan Schab, 58, died April 19, 2016 at his home in Athens, Georgia. He was born in 1957 in Lebanon, Tennessee, the son of Dr. Fred and Alyne Clay Schab. Dan graduated from Clarke Central High School in Athens. He received a cello performance degree (undergraduate) from Oberlin Conservatory of Music in Oberlin, Ohio and a Masters’ Degree from the University of Cincinnati College—Conservatory of Music.
He was an accomplished musician and performed with The Atlanta Opera, The Savannah Symphony, The Symphony of Charleston as well as symphony orchestras in Birmingham, Greenville and Augusta. Dan was the Orchestra Manager and Member of The Spoleto Festivals in South Carolina and Italy for 10 years.
Dan started a mail order stringed instrument supply business while still in college that grew into Dan Schab Violins, a violin shop in Athens, Georgia.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Peter Clayton Schab.
He is survived by sister, Anne Bollinger of Savannah, Georgia; sister, Helen London (Jim) of The Georgia Club in Athens, Georgia; brother, Karl Schab (Debbie) of Athens, Georgia; niece, Elizabeth Seidle (Kurt) of Marietta, Georgia and nephew, George Peterson (Dollie) and their son, George, of Los Angeles, California.
The family will hold a reception from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 30, 2016 in the Atrium of The First Presbyterian Church of Athens, 185 E. Hancock Avenue, Athens, Georgia 30601.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Athens Area Humane Society, 1781 Mars Hill Road, Watkinsville, Georgia 30677.
