
David Bradley Onstott of Athens, GA, passed away on October 13, 2011 after a short battle with lung cancer. He was 76. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Nikki Anne Onstott, his parents, and three of his siblings. He is survived by his four children, daughters Laura (Steve) Griffith and Leslie (Darryl) Duerr, both of Oconee County and sons Matthew (Asuncion) Onstott of Santa Fe, NM and Adam Onstott of Athens; Five grandchildren, Stefanie (Joseph) Myer, Alison Duerr, Elizabeth Griffith, David Onstott, and Daniel Onstott; Two great-grandchildren, Aubrey and Ethan Myer; six siblings, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
David was born February 17, 1935 in Rochester, Indiana, where he spent all of his childhood years. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War before attending Indiana University, where he met his wife. They were married in April 1959 and resided in Indiana before moving to New Jersey, where they spent the next 25 years. They relocated to Athens in 1989.
David was an avid golfer and loved to spend time with his family. He was known for his gentle heart, his sense of humor and his ability to entertain his grandchildren. He was always kind to friends and strangers alike and was well loved by all who knew him.
Memorial services for David will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Athens on October 29th at 11am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to St. Joseph Catholic Church’s Capital Campaign, the American Cancer Society, or St. Mary’s Hospice in Athens.
