Dorothy "Dottie" Kay Bowden Fowler

A native of Clarke County, Mrs. Fowler was a daughter of Betty Jo Venable Bowden of Athens and the late Charles Guy Bowden. She was a graduate of the University of Georgia, a retired food inspector with the United States Department of Agriculture and a member of Prince Avenue Baptist Church.

Survivors, in addition to her mother, include husband, Ray Fowler of Athens; son, Ray “Buddy” Fowler Jr. and girlfriend, Whitney Maddox of Athens; stepson, Eric Ray Fowler of Hull; stepdaughter, Sandra Shelnutt of the Harrison Community; brother, Charles Guy Bowden Jr. of Athens; sisters, Debbie Lisano of Opelika, AL and Diana Cole and husband, Jim of Athens; grandchildren, Keyanna Shelnutt and Kandace Zimmer; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her father, Mrs. Fowler was preceded in death by stepson, Douglas J. Fowler.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, November 2 from 6-8 p.m. at Bernstein Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 3 at 11 a.m. at Prospect United Methodist Church with Joel Murphy officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be David Oaks, George Bennett, Frank Bowden, Chuck Bowden, Jerry Henson and Charlie Bowden.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Athens Area Humane Society, 1781 Mars Hill Rd., Watkinsville, GA 30677.
