

Dorothy Inez Wood Parham, 102, of Athens died Wednesday, December 15, 2010. She was born in Aquone, N.C. and was a long time resident of Athens. She was raised and educated in Barberton, Ohio and moved to Athens when she married in 1928. She was a bookkeeper for Chevron Oil Company and the Gainesville Midland Railroad until her retirement. Inez was an active member of Hull Baptist Church, having a strong faith and trust in God.
Inez loved traveling and had an avid interest in geography and history. She visited many countries of the world on six continents and also visited all fifty states. She was a proud member of the DAR and several other organizations. She had done extensive genealogical research and had written and published several books on the genealogy of her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas N. Wood and Emma Neal Wood; husband Joseph A. Parham; son, Weyman Parham; son in law, Lane Nicholson; six sisters and three brothers. She is survived by one daughter, Tommie Nicholson of Athens; grandson, Steve Nicholson (Nancy) of Irvine, CA; granddaughter, Lynn Kinley (Rick) of Bogart; great-grandson Marshall Nicholson of Irvine CA; sister, Eula Watson, of Clarkesville, and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 3pm, Saturday, December 18 in the chapel at Bernstein Funeral Home with visitation from 1:30 to 3:00 prior to the service. Interment will be at Evergreen Memorial Park.
Dr. Tom Lang and Rev. Randy Crow will officiate at the service with Don Tyson, David Jones, and Stuart Lang providing the music.
Pall bearers will be Dennis Whitfield, Charles Dooley, Jim Stogden, and David Owens.
