Other survivors are his sister and brother-in-law, Brea Brumby and Jim Worley of Cincinnati, Ohio, and his brother and sister-in-law, Forrest Brumby and Nora Webb Williams and nephew, Martin Brumby of Champaign, Illinois. Numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and in-laws also remain, along with Hunt’s innumerable friends, neighbors, and colleagues.
Hunt graduated from Murphy (North Carolina) High School and studied at Athens (Georgia) Technical College. He was employed by SK Battery America in Commerce, Georgia. A veteran, Hunt served with honor in the United States Marine Corps and with the Army National Guard in Iraq.
Hunt Brumby was an adventurer, who trained for and succeeded in many pursuits. Over his life, he immersed himself in playing team sports, billiards, boxing, bowling, motorcycles, trout fishing, poker, golf, and collecting comic books and tattoos. But his best-loved adventures were participating in outdoor hiking, triathlons, and trail and ultra running. Among his many trail accomplishments, he was proud to have completed the 2021 Last Annual Vol State Road Race, 500K on foot across Tennessee from Missouri to Georgia in nine days. It was on this run that Hunt firmly established his reputation for never giving up and as a kitten whisperer. The ultra running community loved, cheered, and supported Hunt in all his runs, and through his illness.
Hunt was also an outstanding poet, writer, and storyteller. His heart-felt writings have touched many hearts. He participated in well-received public readings, including Athens, Georgia Rabbit Box and Write Club performances, poetry slams, radio dialogues, and podcasts. Hunt’s writings reflected the humor, humanity, and positivity that the world came to know in his life. Hunt was a true gentleman, authentic individual, and amazing man. His kindness and smile touched everyone who knew him.
