
Ed was born in Griffin, Georgia to the late Edwin John Dye and Mary Edna McCormack Dye. He graduated from Griffin High School and West Georgia College. After graduate studies at the University of Georgia, Ed taught mathematics at Kennesaw College and retired from the University of Georgia.
Ed established Just Wick Candles in downtown Athens, GA in 1971. The family business is continued by his wife and son.
Ed loved music and began playing professionally at the age of 15. As a drummer, Ed was the backbone of many bands throughout the years including Leaves of Grass and most recently, Americopia.
He is survived by his wife, Betty-Anne Dye and son, John Dye of Athens; sister and brother-in-law, Linda (Bob) Pierce of Stone Mountain; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 21 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Prince Ave. There will be a viewing at 9:15 a.m. Father David McGuinness will officiate. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park.
As the self-proclaimed Mayor of Normaltown, Ed had a knack for making everyone he met feel welcome and better for having known him. He will be sorely missed.
