

A native Athenian, Mrs. Whitehead was born on October 11, 1919, to the late Ernest E. Aaron and Sarah Je’Rusha Wright Aaron and was preceded in death by husbands, Roy L. Wigley and John B. Whitehead, daughter, Carole Lee Andrews and grandson, Jason Andrews. Elsie was a member of West End Baptist Church for much of her life and then a founding member of Cleveland Road Baptist Church.
Elsie loved her home town and often remarked that Athens was the best place in the world to live. The family is proud of Elsie’s life-long personal accomplishments and her legacy of strength, resilience and independence. She was a strong inspiration to her family and many friends.
Survivors include a daughter, Janet Konecny (John); grandsons Travis Winfrey (Rhonda), Alan Winfrey, Matthew Andrews (Jae Won), Benjamin Andrews; step-grandsons Kevin Konecny (Teresa), Kerry Konecny (Sheli); four great-grandchildren, Carole Dona Andrews, Ashley Andrews, Shannon Andrews and Anina Grace Winfrey; brother Clifford Aaron (Betty) and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Funeral services will be held 11AM Thursday, July 11th, in the chapel at Bernstein Funeral Home with Rev. Clark Ivey officiating. The family will receive friends from 10-11AM prior to the service.
A private burial service for family members will follow.
