Grace was born on May 30, 1960, to M.M. Abraham and Aleyamma Abraham in Kundara, Kerala, India. She was the youngest of five children: Zachariah Abraham, Marykutty Abraham, Mathews Abraham, Susan Koshy Vaidyan, and Annamma Mammen. Grace graduated from MGD High School in 1977 and went on to complete her Bachelors in Economics in 1982 at Jyoti Niketan Women’s College in Kollam. Afterwards, she worked toward her ambition of becoming a nurse at Christian Medical Mission Hospital, Oddanchatram, Tamil Nadu, graduating in 1986.
Grace married Alexander Chacko on December 17, 1987, in Punalur, India. Soon after, she immigrated to Long Island, New York where she began to build a life and family with her husband and two children, Abbey and Ashley. In 2001, she moved to Georgia with her family. She worked as a Registered Nurse, most recently at St. Mary’s Hospital in Athens, GA, serving on the Neuro Critical Care unit. She had a tender love for providing exceptional care to her patients.
Grace embodied the best of qualities: Her faith in Jesus Christ, her unconditional love, and her willingness to help others through her line of work and personal life. She was a follower of Jesus Christ and held many relationships with people through church and surrounding communities. Her faith led her to witnessing Jesus as her Lord and Savior through water baptism in the 1990’s. It is safe to say that her life revolved around prayer and a growing relationship with God.
Grace was also a lover of all things musical and the great outdoors. Throughout high school, she ran track, and she also played various instruments, such as the harmonium, violin, and harmonica. This evolved into her enjoyment for hiking trails and going on daily walks with her daughter, Ashley, and German Shepherd, Jackie.
Grace is survived by her husband, Alexander Chacko, her son Abbey Chacko and daughter in law Reshma Chacko, and daughter, Ashley Chacko. Her kindness and joyous smile will be remembered by all who knew her.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Saturday, March 30, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., at Bernstein Funeral Home, followed by the funeral service in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park.
Bernstein Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
