

A native of Atlanta, Mrs. Nix was a daughter of the late William Thomas Hoard and Nancy Mildred Coggins Hoard. She grew up in Atlanta and graduated from Northside High School. Mrs. Nix attended the High Museum School of Art and Georgia State University. She received a BFA degree in drawing and painting and an MFA degree in crafts from the Lamar Dodd School of Art at the University of Georgia. Mrs. Nix exhibited her work both nationally and internationally. She was active with the Lyndon House Arts Center and the House Museum.
She enjoyed quilting, dolls and was a leader in the University of Georgia Women’s Club and the Clarke-Oconee Genealogical Society.
Mrs. Nix was a member of First Christian Church of Athens where she was a member of the choir and a deacon. In addition, she was heavily involved in the design and implementation of the restorations at the church.
She married Dr. Walter Robert Nix in Decatur on June 21, 1956.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two sons, David Thomas Nix of Athens and John Paul Nix (Dr. Cathy Marie Lococo Nix) of San Antonio, Texas; one grandson, Adam Robert Nix.
Funeral services will be held Monday, October 12 at 2:30 p.m. at First Christian Church of Athens with Rev. Dr. Alan Mace and Rev. Dr. Ray Austin officiating. Interment will follow at Oconee Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Christian Church of Athens or a charity of choice.
