Henry Lewis Mix

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend Henry “Hank” Mix passed away on Sunday, June 23, 2024. He was born and raised in western New York to Edwin and Althea Mix, along with his younger brother, Robert “Bob” Mix. Hank earned a bachelor’s degree in Ceramic Engineering at Alfred College, where he met and married his college sweetheart, Linda, in 1964. They celebrated their 60th anniversary in March 2024. After serving in the Army, Hank and Linda returned to western New York, where he earned his MBA from SUNY-Buffalo and where their older daughter, Deborah, was born in 1969. A second daughter, Kirstin, arrived in 1973, and the family settled in Marietta, Georgia, in 1978.

Hank, known as “Tom” to his wife and friends from college and the Army, valued family above all else. Their home was a gathering place for their daughters’ friends and eventually their families, which included Deborah’s husband, Tim, and their children Sadie and Georgia, and Kirstin’s husband, Mike, and their children Matt and Emmie. As a family, they traveled all over the United States and to Scandinavia, Africa, and Costa Rica. He loved exercising, running the first of many Peachtree Road Races in 1979, and was game to take a yoga class, a kayaking trip, or a bike ride across Georgia (twice!). Hank also found time over the years to earn his private pilot’s license, to work as a Stephen Minister for his church, to prepare taxes for H & R Block, and to volunteer at a local hospital.

Hank was wise, funny, generous, and fiercely proud of his wife, daughters, and grandchildren. His family and friends will remember him as a genuinely good man who was always ready to lend a hand or an ear. He will be terribly missed by all who knew and loved him.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, July 2, at 2:00 p.m., in the Presbyterian Village Chapel, 1400 Live Oak Lane, Athens, Georgia 30606.
