Hilda McLeroy

A native of Madison County, she was the daughter of the late Lonnie Eugene and Minnie Lee Strickland Hopkins. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Robert L McLeroy, brothers Howard, Grady and Comer Hopkins, and sister Annie Mae Patterson.

Mrs. McLeroy was a homemaker, avid gardener, and nature-lover. She enjoyed travelling and fishing at her lake house. She was one of the founding members of the Oconee Heights Baptist Church.

Survivors include daughter Kay and husband, Jim Becker of Lawrenceville; daughter Debora Marsden of Athens; daughter Carol and husband, Tom LaMartina of Greenville, SC; daughter Julia and husband, David Shoemaker of Watkinsville and grandchildren: Suzanne Davis, Nicholas Becker, Jared Marsden and wife, Kim Marsden, Dr. Kate Marsden and husband, Saphir Grici, Luke Brown, Emily Brown, Hannah Shoemaker, and Noah Shoemaker; great-granddaughters Samantha and Molly Marsden, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2pm Wednesday, February 18, at the chapel of Bernstein’s Funeral Home with Rev. Rob Bailey officiating. Internment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Bernstein on Tuesday, February 17, from 5-7pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations and gifts be made to Extra Special People, Inc., 189 VFW Dr., P. O. Box 615, Watkinsville, Georgia 30677.
