

Born in Adel, GA, Mr. Lineberger was a son of the late Richard Franklin Lineberger III and Ethel Thompson Lineberger. He graduated from Valdosta High School and Valdosta State College. He also has two master’s degrees from the University of Georgia in special education and art history. He worked in education for many years and retired from the Hall County School System as an English as Second Language teacher. He and his wife enjoyed traveling around the world and across the country. Their life together was full of many adventures. He attended St. James United Methodist Church. His latest interest was baking cookies with Chuck Clark at the Orchard of Athens. Art has always been his passion too – both creating his own and viewing masterpieces.
After retirement, James became a local expert on Athens architecture. He volunteered at Athens Welcome Center, giving tours of Athens history. In 2017, he won the Athens-Clarke Heritage Foundation Award for Outstanding Publications & Programs for his book "Architecture in Athens: Then and Now."
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Tag Seigler.
Survivors include his wife, Janie Roach Lineberger; two daughters: Mandy Beaulieu (Jeffrey) and Beth Segars (Klinton); brother, Frank Lineberger (Diana Bandy); grandchildren: Tyler Seigler, Hayley Segars (Brandon Berrong), Tommy Seigler, Kinsey Segars (Gabe Stutz), Blake Segars, Katie Seigler and Stephanie Beaulieu; and one great-grandchild, Violet Mae Berrong.
Other survivors include chosen children: Jaiker and Carolina Cham, Richard Seigler, and the staff at the Orchard of Athens.
A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, July 9, at 2:00 p.m., at Heritage Fellowship in Bogart with Pastors Tim Vaughn and Douglas Bloodworth officiating. A reception will follow the service.
