Joe Nathan Weems Sr.

A native of Athens, GA, Mr. Weems was the son of the late Rev Milow and Lizzie Weems and was preceded in death by three sisters, Alberta Weems-Aycock, Jeanette Weems-Elder, Kathleen Weems, two brothers, Milow Weems Jr, and Frank Weems Sr, and step-mother, Lassie Weems.

Mr. Weems was a 1960 graduate of Athens High and Industrial High School where he ran track and played the trombone in the band. After graduating he served in the United States Army and reached the rank of Captain. He was a member of the Mason Lodge in Columbus, GA and attended Morehouse College in Atlanta where he studied business. Mr. Weems was employed at the LAD Trucking Company.

Mr. Weems is survived by his wife of 46 years, Louise Craddick Weems of Hull, GA; daughter, Cynthia Harris (Vincent) of Augusta, GA; son, Joe Weems Jr (Vernetta) of Ellenwood, GA; 6 sisters, Louise Buckner, Elizabeth Robinson, Sarah Simmons, Yvonne Crayton, Quintella Bolden, Lynettia Maddox, two brothers, Albert Weems and Donarell Weems Sr; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held 2PM Thursday, October 21st in the chapel at Bernstein Funeral Home. Interment will follow at East Lawn Cemetery.
