Margaret Rodgers

A native of Lincolnton, GA, Mrs. Rodgers was the daughter of the late James Elias McGee, Sr and Fay Alexander McGee and was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas F Rodgers, Sr.

Mrs. Rodgers graduated from Lincolnton High School and attended Rabun Gap Junior College and Piedmont College. She graduated from Georgia State University in Milledgeville and received her masters degree from the University of Georgia. Mrs. Rodgers was a medical secretary at the VA hospital in Augusta, GA for 9 years before beginning her career as a teacher in 1956 in Columbia County. She retired in 1983 as Associate Superintendent of Instruction of Columbia County Schools.

Mrs. Rodgers was actively involved in Evans Baptist Church from 1955 to 2001. She moved to Athens, GA in 2001 and joined Milledge Avenue Baptist Church, where she was an active member of the Friendship Class.

Survivors include son, Dr. Thomas F Rodgers, Jr and his wife, Janie of Athens, GA; daughter, Dr. Eloise R Hancock of Athens, GA; sister-in-law, Dr. Ava Rodgers of Thompson, GA; grandsons, Scott Rodgers, Jim Rodgers and wife, Mary, Brannon Hancock, Thomas Hancock and wife, Laura, and 8 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 3PM Sunday, August 1st at Greenwood Baptist Church in Lincolnton, GA. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8PM Saturday, July 31st at Bernstein Funeral Home.
