Mars was one of the nicest people anyone could meet. Freakin full of talent and blessed to have him in my childhood. It was good to start reconnecting in the past couple years, and I hate we didn’t get that meal in Athens. I owe you one when we meet again.

Mars was a great friend and I will miss him. I kept a few picks he gave me years ago in Brunswick. He offered to trade me for newer ones. He was full of imagination. I’m glad that he lived his life to the fullest and made his dreams come true. To his family, my heart and prayers are with you. Rest easy Mars.

We are so sorry for the loss of this special guy! Praying for y’all!

I can hear the ocean waves crashing in, the seagulls making their lovely sounds, and the smell of sunscreen as memories of Mars, my sister, my brother and I  running up and down the beach in and out of the water pervade my mind. Building sand castles, throwing a frisbee, and laughing in the innocence and purity of childhood. I can see Uncle Sam and Mars sitting by the Christmas tree waiting for mamas Christmas cheesecake every year after opening presents.  
Amy, Uncle Sam, and daddy (Mars’s Uncle Jeff) my heart hurts with you and for you. My prayers are with you for comfort, peace, and for only the sweetest memories of our beloved Marsellus. Love you all.  We will miss you cousin.

My first Mars encounter was uneventful in the best way possible. While filming a preservation jazz band at Festival Hall in Greensboro, the man was nothing but courteous, professional, and quiet. After wrapping out that evening, I ran into him again at the Oglethorpe Garage. I’d soon discover we had a mutual favorite watering hole and a shared love of music. Proper music. His knowledge and enthusiasm for music history, both recorded and live, was unmatched by anyone I’ve ever met in person. Many happenstance, quality discussions were had in the following year. 

As a young man who has longed for mentorship in the business of making art, I will always cherish and remember the conversations and tomfoolery I shared with Marsellus Feriss. 

Rest in peace, friend.

I only knew Marsellus for a little under a year, but he was one of the best friends I've made in 20 years. We talked endlessly about our passion for guitars, and music. He was smart, compassionate, talented, and just a damn nice guy. It was an honor and pleasure to have known him. You will be dearly missed, my friend.
