She is survived by her children Mary Kay Hermann of Woodbridge, CT, David Hermann of Sandy Springs, GA, Robert Hermann of Lakewood Ranch, FL, and Susan Zalac of Watkinsville, GA, and her five grandchildren, Benjamin, Victoria, Justine, Anya, and Nika, and two great-grandchildren, Aiden and Ethan. She was predeceased by her three brothers, Thomas, Robert, and Michael Dambach.
She was born in Cleveland, OH, on May 14, 1942. She held a Master's Degree in Education from Saint Mary's College. While attending St. Mary’s, she met her late ex-husband, Mark L. Hermann who attended nearby Notre Dame University. The couple eventually moved to Hamden, Connecticut, and then later moved to Cape Coral, FL, where they resided for more than 30 years.
Mary Anne cared deeply about education and was a true champion for children. She was an elementary and Catechism teacher in her early professional life. She later became a freelance writer of children's stories, which eventually led to positions as a software developer and textbook editor at Sunburst Communications and Edmark Corporation, where she helped pioneer one of the first Type to Learn software programs in the 1980s. Her caring and empathetic nature touched many lives along the way. She was a Stephen Minister with the Episcopal Church and also volunteered as a child advocate for Guardian ad Litem.
A few of her favorite things were - admiring spring flowers – especially forsythias, purple violets, and daffodils, visiting Maine in the summertime, playing bridge or Mahjong with friends, and deciding what sweets to have for dessert!
Her warmth, love, and encouragement will be dearly missed.
In lieu of flowers family request that memorial contributions be made to voicesforkids.org.
