Miriam was born and raised in Birmingham, AL to the late Rupert and Ruby Mardis Morgan, where she attended local schools and was a member of Town and Gown. She moved to Athens with her husband and family in 1975. Miriam was a loving mother and devoted wife and was a homemaker. She enjoyed being a member of the Red Hat Society, watching classic movies and attending musicals and theater productions at the Classic Center and other venues and had a wonderful sense of humor. She and her family were avid Alabama Football fans (Roll Tide!) and she had a wonderful personal relationship with Jesus Christ. And turned her many trips to doctor’s offices into her mission field, witnessing and sharing the love of Christ. Her favorite scripture verse was Psalms 19:14, Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.
Miriam was preceded in death by her husband, Nathan W. “Bill” Averett, Jr.; brother, Harold Morgan; son-in-law, John Mayberry; grandsons, John Thomas Burnette, III and Kyle Bama Burnette; great grandchild, Noah Mayberry; and niece, Teresa Jane Willis.
