

A native of Athens, Mr. Williams was the son of the late Nathan C. and Florence Roberts Williams and was also preceded in death by a son Nathan Williams, III. He was a graduate of Athens High School in 1949 where he was an outstanding football, basketball and baseball player. Mr. Williams accepted an athletic scholarship to the University of Georgia, was captain on the 1953 SEC championship bulldog baseball team and also a member of the Lambda Chi fraternity. He served in the US. Air Force from 1954-55, and was a former member of the Athens City Council, a member of the UGA Board of Managers, a charter member of the Athens Athletic Hall of Fame and served as president of the first Clarke Central Touchdown Club. Mr. Williams owned and operated Williams Insurance Agency until his retirement in 1998, was also a longtime senior league baseball coach, an avid golfer and supporter of the UGA baseball program.
Survivors include son, Dave Williams of Athens; son, Joe Williams and wife Christina of Athens; sister Joyce Pilgrim of Memphis and longtime companion Kathryn Gruetzmacher of Athens.
A private service will be held on Tuesday, July 3rd , at Evergreen Memorial Park.
The family will receive guest from 6-8 pm Monday, July 2nd , at Bernstein.
