Robert Franklin Frey

Robert was born in Atlanta to the late Monroe Lynn Frey and Thelma Blanche Woodall Frey, where he attended local schools, graduating from Avondale High School in 1954. Robert moved to Athens in 1970 and retired in 1988 as a District Manager with Life of Georgia Insurance Company, after 32 years of service. He was a member of Athens Underwriter’s Association, General Managers Association and Bethabara Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his four siblings, Hazel Lucille Sharpe, M. L. Frey, Jr., Betty Stancel and Mary Virginia Floyd.

Robert is survived by his children, Kimberly Ann Matthews, Athens; Robert Newton Frey, Lavonia and Sara Alicia Cook and her husband, Brian of Watkinsville; grandchildren, Thomas Matthews, Jr., Robert Matthews, Hayden Frey, Colin Cook, and Cory Cook; three great grandchildren, Riley Matthews, Willow Matthews and Thomas Matthews, III; many nieces and nephews.

Buddy, as he was known to his friends and family, was a humble, sweet and kind man who had a marvelous sense of humor and loved to laugh. He was a wonderful father and grandfather who always let his children and grandchildren know how much he loved them and how proud that he was of them.

A gathering of family and friends will be held Sunday, September 26, 2021 from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM in Bernstein Funeral Home immediately followed by the funeral service with Reverend Jeff Wilkes officiating.

Burial will be held at 4:00 PM Sunday, September 26, 2021 in Decatur Cemetery 229 Bell Street, Decatur, GA 30030.
