She was the daughter of the late Joseph R. Kenney and Audrey Coney Kenney, born October 19, 1950 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Athens, GA and lived her childhood in Decatur, GA. She was known as the cute curly blonde haired girl when she was little. She grew up with four brothers: (Joey Kenney, Walter Kenney, John Kenney, and Chris Kenney), two sisters: (Jill Kenney Dawson and Teresa “Tweety” Kenney), and several cousins that she spent several memorable weekends and summers with.
As she grew up and became the woman everyone loved her for, she helped care for her siblings, and learned to cook, which she fell in love with, especially baking. She took this into her young adult years and loved making regular cakes, adult cakes, cookies, pies, and many more desserts. If you wanted it, she would bake it. She loved seeing people smile and eat her delicious food. During these years, she got into sewing and started making clothes. She also started working for the state of Georgia and worked her way to making a career at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation for 25 plus years in Decatur, GA.
On July 24, 1972, she was blessed with her one and only child, Stephen Gregory Daniel. She was an amazing mother, and raised a strong boy. Of course, at times he would drive her crazy, by bringing different animals home for pets, or disappearing somewhere to go fishing. Eventually she met and fell in love with her husband, Joseph Edwin Anderson of 34 years. They were a perfect match. He drove many miles from Elberton, GA to Decatur, GA just to see Sandy and spend time with her before they married on November 23, 1989, and lived in Watkinsville, GA.
In 1998, she finally decided to retire from GBI and just a short time later she took on a new job of being a homemaker and grandmother. Through the years of being “Nana,” she has gotten to spoil, take care of, fuss at, and teach each of them different things that they will cherish and keep for the rest of their lives.
Through the sneakiness of her granddaughter, Briannah while she was growing up the family home grew with another one of Sandra’s loves, animals, especially cats. She did have her own cat, George, also known as Bubbers and Georgie, who she actually brought home herself. The rest of the animals are thanks to Briannah but Sandy grew to love Oreo, Nyla, Skipper, Lilo, Willow, and Shadow. They all loved to cuddle with her and be around her, especially when she had chicken.
She will always be remembered as Sandra or Sandy to most, but to her family, she will always be Honey, Mom, Nana, and/or Nana Banana!!
Survivors include her husband, Joseph Edwin Anderson; her son, Stephen Gregory Daniel, daughter-in-law, Marie Daniel; her grandchildren: Briannah Rae Daniel, Lessley Ellis Daniel, Jacob Lee Daniel, Stephanie Hope Daniel, Joni Elizabeth Woods, Dylan Jarred Daniel; and several cousins and nieces.
The family will receive friends Saturday, August 19, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., at Bernstein Funeral Home.
Bernstein Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
