Born on August 6, 1931, in White Plains, Georgia, Sarah was the daughter of the late Jasper Moore and Annie Marchman Moore. She lived a long and meaningful life grounded in faith, compassion, and devotion to those she loved.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Arthur Herbert Bennett Sr., and her daughter, Marilyn Susan Bennett.
Sarah was a devoted member of Friendship Presbyterian Church in Athens, where she offered her time, talents, and heart to numerous ministries. She served faithfully to provide food and clothing to those in need, volunteered with SNAP, and assisted at local voter polls. She also spent 15 years working with the Georgia Institute on Human Development and Disability, always advocating for the dignity and well-being of others.
She is survived by her children: Arthur “Art” Herbert Bennett Jr. (Tami), Caroline Elizabeth “Beth” Carter, John Landus Bennett (Martha), and Joseph Anthony Bennett (Fern).
Sarah was a cherished grandmother to David Carter (Cecilia), Laura Bennett Patty (Jase), Katie Gonzalez (Carlos), Craig Bennett, Zachary Bennett, Jacob Bennett (Sonia), and Jessie Miller (Trey); and a proud great-grandmother to Parker Bennett, Brooks Patty, Sophia Bennett, Silas Bennett, Dalton Bennett, Lane Patty, Reese Patty, Nora Bennett, Gabriel Carter, Liliana Gonzalez, Lucy Bennett, and Fabio Carter.
She lived her values not through words, but through quiet, steady actions and deep faith in the Lord. Sarah was the rock of her family, a devoted wife, a loving mother, a cherished grandmother, and a joyful great-grandmother. She found happiness in life’s simple pleasures: caring for her garden, cooking homemade meals, and being with the people she loved most.
Her warmth, kindness, and quiet strength will be remembered always, a lasting legacy of love and service.
Family and friends are invited to a viewing at Friendship Presbyterian Church in Athens, GA, on Monday, July 28, at 12:00 PM. A celebration of Sarah’s life will follow at 2:00 PM, with Rev. Craig Topple officiating.
