

Born in Commerce, Shirley was the daughter of the late Robert Windom Adams and Virginia Cornelia Howington Adams. She worked in food service for Wesley Woods of Athens where she loved serving the residents and staff. A devoted member and faithful nursery worker at Oconee Heights Baptist Church, Shirley enjoyed going to gospel music singings and attending the Georgia Mountain Fair for many years. She had a deep love for her family and cherished time with them, especially on Thanksgiving, Christmas and birthdays. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren have special memories of Shirley always sending them birthday cards.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her former husband, Charles Edward Merck.
Survivors include children: Ann James, Doug Bellamy (Alice), Lynn Eirish (Steve), Tammy Merck, and Billy Merck (Irais); stepchildren: Rickey Merck (Kelley), Mitchell Merck and Michael Merck; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Friday, February 28, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., at Bernstein Funeral Home, immediately followed by the funeral service in the funeral home chapel, officiated by Rev. Crist Camden. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park.
