

A native of Jackson County, he was the son of the late L. D. and Maude Toney Nicholson and was also preceded in death by his beloved wife of 72 years Evelyn Nix Nicholson. Mr. Nicholson was a veteran of WW II, serving with the US Army in the Philippines and retired from the Georgia Department of Labor after 34 years of service. Mr. Nicholson was a member of the Athens First United Methodist Church and had been a member of the Tuck Sunday School Class for over 40 years.
Survivors include sons Jack Nicholson of Sandy Springs, John Nicholson of Royston and Dow Nicholson and wife Claire of Watkinsville, grandchildren Christy Leigh Nicholson, William Dow Nicholson, Margaret Lynn Heyen and Suzanne Graves, great grandchildren Sydney Marie Nicholson, Tanner Graves, Benjamin Graves and Evelyn Heyen.
Graveside services will be held 11AM Tuesday, August 30th, at Evergreen Memorial Park with Rev. John Page officiating. The family will receive friends at Bernstein from 9:30-10:30 am prior to the service Tuesday.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers for donations to be to the Athens First United Methodist Church, 327 N. Lumpkin Street, Athens, Georgia 30601 or the charity of their choice.
