A native of Avery County, NC, Mr. Johnson was a son of the late Dewey Johnson and Shelton Braswell Johnson. He was a proud veteran of World War II where he received the Medal of the French National Order of the Legion of Honor. Mr. Johnson was a member of the Athens VFW post and was a lover of automobiles and gardening.
Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Edna Johnson of Athens, whom he married on October 31, 1946; children, Glen W. Johnson (Georgeanne) of Watkinsville and Cheryl A. Johnson (the late David Divoky) of Brookhaven; brother, John Johnson (Emma) of Newland, NC; and grandchildren, Sara Johnson and Alexander Divoky.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 5 at 4 p.m. at the chapel of Bernstein Funeral Home with a reception to follow.
