Willis Greer Madden, 84, of Athens, GA passed away Sunday, October 17, 2010.

Born in Forest, Mississippi, Mr. Madden was the son of the late Dr. Willis Rector Madden and Cassie Greer Madden. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Palmer Madden.

Mr. Madden attended the University of Alabama and remained a tide fan all his life. He joined the Navy and served as an Aerographer during WWII. During his time in the service he entertained his fellow servicemen playing the clarinet in various dance bands.

The Maddens moved to Athens in 1951. Mr. Madden was the owner of the Madden Brick Company and was a charter member of Beech Haven Baptist Church where he served as its Choir Director into the early 1960s.

Survivors include daughter, Greer Madden; son, Michael Madden both of Athens, GA and grandchildren of "Pops" - Kelley Marie Madden, of Swan Quarter, N.C. and Kourtney Lea Madden, Kory Michael Madden, Kyle Mark Madden, and Kristopher Matthew Madden all of Charlotte, N.C.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, October 21 at Evergreen Memorial Park with Pastor Ben Slaboda officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the home of his daughter.
