Born on April 8, 1936, in Tsingtao, China, Amy was the only child of Florentine Richter and Kenneth Yvette LeCompte. As a teen, she and her mother fled communist China to settle in Stuttgart, Germany. It is there that she met her future husband—Charles Franklin James—who was stationed at the United States army base where Amy worked for base command. They originally moved to the Pacific Northwest in the United States and eventually settled in Atlanta, Georgia.
It was in Atlanta that Amy found her true calling: Real Estate. She originally joined Northside Realty, but it wasn’t long before she became one of the first agents—and later, a broker—at the very new RE/MAX Realty. She also began investing in rental properties and land with the potential for development. Amy worked tirelessly and loved every minute of it. She proved to be very successful.
Amy was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Charles Franklin James.
Amy is survived by her children and their families: Deborah, Dwight (Shelley Hodes), and Dana (Kathy Buttler). Additionally, she has three grandchildren: Lucy Abdelkader, Calvin Differding, and Riley James, as well as two great-grandchildren: Lana and Ali Abdelkader.
