With profound sorrow and broken hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved daughter, Audrey Joy DeShetler on June 8, 2025, just one day shy of her 20th birthday. Audrey was a radiant light in the lives of all who knew her—a daughter, sister, friend, student, and faithful servant of God. She was more than we ever could have asked for: full of grace, courage, and an unwavering spirit.
Born to Benjamin and Jennifer DeShetler, and cherished by her older brother Scott, Audrey was part of a close-knit family that faced life’s hardest challenges with extraordinary love and unity. For 15 years, Audrey bravely battled pediatric cancer, and throughout it all, she remained a source of strength and joy for everyone around her. She never wanted to be a burden—always putting others first with her selflessness, compassion, and comforting words.
Family meant everything to Audrey. Whether on long road trips to the beach, the mountains, or amusement parks, her happiest moments were those spent together. Her love for her family was boundless, and her presence brought peace, laughter, and inspiration.
Despite her health challenges, Audrey accomplished more in 19 years than many do in a lifetime. Through speaking engagements and community involvement, she helped raise a staggering $6 million for pediatric cancer charities. She also co-founded Audrey’s Angels—a group of friends dedicated to handcrafting Christmas ornaments to support causes close to their hearts. In recognition of her efforts (and love of roller coasters), she was honored with Cedar Point’s Golden Ticket, granting her four lifetime season passes.
A dedicated student, Audrey attended the Westminster Schools from pre-First through 12th grade, where she served as stage manager for productions like Les Misérables and Footloose. Following graduation, she displayed her fierce independence, enrolling at the University of Notre Dame as a computer science major in the College of Engineering. Even in the midst of undergoing cross country treatments, she still lived an active student life in the dorms and was a stellar student. She quickly became an avid Irish fan, attending every home game and cheering the team with vigor. She also actively participated in clubs like the TEA (Themed Entertainment Association) and Access-ABLE among many others.
Audrey’s faith was the foundation of her life. A lifelong member of Northside United Methodist Church, she loved Jesus with her whole heart. Every night, she led her family in devotional time, prayer, and study, teaching more about the Gospel through her actions than words ever could. Her faith was deep, joyful, and unshakable.
Audrey will be remembered for her humble and kind spirit, her genuine love for others, her unwavering faith, and her commitment to making the world a better place. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched and the countless hearts she inspired. We are forever grateful for the gift of Audrey’s life.
Audrey is survived by her parents, Benjamin Wes and Mei-Ying Jennifer, her older brother, Scott Wes, and by her grandparents, Barry and Linda DeShetler. She is pre-deceased by her grandparents, Yih-Chih Chan and Shu-Hsian Huang Chan.
Please join us in celebrating her memory at a memorial service on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Northside United Methodist Church.
