Auguste (Gusti) Eichholz (87) passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, August 28 2016. Gusti touched everyone she met with limitless love. She had the ability to make each person in her life feel cherished and completely accepted. She saw only the good in each of us and, through example, taught us to love and live to the fullest. Our sadness of losing such a caring and generous woman is only matched by the incredible gratitude we feel from being showered with her love and kindness.
Gusti was born on March 31, 1929, in Würzburg, Germany. She is preceded in death by her parents, August and Luise Eichholz, brother Johannes Adam Eichholz, and sister Marie Schreiber. She is survived by her partner of 28 years, Gilbert Olgin of Atlanta. They met dancing and continued their dance with laughter and love all of their years together. In her final years, Gusti suffered from Alzheimer’s Disease. Gil was by her side every moment until the end. Also surviving are her sister, Lydia Hildegard Luise Schmidt, and many cousins, nephews, nieces and special friends still living in Germany.
Gusti relocated to the United States in 1962 to live with the Loeb family (Julian and Natalie) and help raise their children: Christopher Loeb (wife -Terry, children -Natascha and Alexander), Natascha Loeb Romeo (husband -Greg, children- Zachary and Marisa), Robert Loeb (son -Ian), Alexandra Loeb (husband- Ethan Meginnes) and Danielle Loeb. Gusti was our angel on earth. She will be missed terribly and will live on in our hearts forever.
A memorial service to celebrate Gusti’s life will take place at 2pm on Saturday, September 3rd at the H.M. Patterson and Son - Oglethorpe Hill Chapel, 4550 Peachtree Rd, Atlanta, GA 30319 followed by a reception 3-5pm at their home (details at the funeral home).
Her loved ones wish to extend a special thank you to all of Gusti’s caregivers, especially Jewel Meeks, who brightened her days. A special thank you is also extended to Alexa Hudson of LongLeaf Hospice, who made sure her last days were spent with comfort and dignity.
