Betty Morgan, 96, of Atlanta, Georgia passed away on August 30, 2018, from natural causes in the home she built and the neighborhood that she started 71 years ago. Betty was born May 15, 1922 in Atlanta, Georgia. In 1942 she married James Bartow Morgan Jr., (J.B.). also of Atlanta. After the end of World War II, they started the two things that would become the center of her life; her family of four children and a brand-new Atlanta subdivision now known as Pine Hills or The Golden Triangle. Always a visionary and passionate about making life better for others, especially children, Betty founded the neighborhood Civic Club with the idea of creating a pool and a park for the neighborhood. Even though they built their own pool 62 years ago, she wasn’t satisfied until the other children in the area had a pool. 58 years ago, The Roxboro Valley Pool was built and is referred to today as Buckhead’s best kept secret. The Shady Valley Park, another project she spearheaded is also still a popular Pine Hills favorite. After years of volunteering her time as PTA President, Civic Club President, Girl Scout Leader, to name a few, Betty entered the work force at 49. She approached her work at A T& T and Bell South with total joy, love and laughter; her signature style for living until the day she died. Betty was a world traveler. Besides her children, her travel memories were her favorite.
Although she lost her beloved son, James Bartow Morgan III, (Jay) in 1988, she gained a new “adopted” daughter, Tiffany Banks, her devoted nurse and caretaker in 2009. All the love she gave to others over her life was returned to her through Tiffany’s unparalleled care and love.
Betty is survived by her three daughters, Gaye Hagan and her husband Stan of Auburn Alabama. Margie Rosen and her husband, Larry of The Villages, Florida, Cathy Kennedy and her husband Stephen of Atlanta; three grandchildren, Daniel Trouse, Mark Trouse, and Jennifer Rosen McKinley; Two great grandchildren, Darcy Trouse and Victor Trouse. A visitation will be held at Patterson’s Oglethorpe, on Thursday, Sept. 6th between 5:00 -8:00 pm. The funeral service will be Friday, Sept. 7th at 11:00 at Peachtree Road United Methodist Church. Betty will be laid to rest afterwards at Westview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Tiffany Banks Nursing School Fund, P.O. Box 566812, Atlanta, Ga. 31156.
