Mrs. Betty Reed Rhodes, of Atlanta, passed away on August 13, 2010 after a brief illness. Formerly of Savannah, she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Howard Reed, Sr. During WWII and prior to marriage, Mrs. Rhodes worked for the Citizens and Southern Bank of Savannah, and then served as mother and homemaker. She returned to the workforce part time from 1965-1973 as a Bridal Consultant for the Davison Paxton Company, from which she retired to travel with her husband. She will be remembered for her spiritual faith in God, sense of style, southern grace, charm and hospitality, her wonderful sense of humor and her extraordinary cooking talents. She created many of her own recipes, winning contests and being published in numerous cookbooks. Mrs. Rhodes was a long time member of Peachtree Christian Church where donations may be made in her memory in lieu of flowers. She lived her life by one philosophy: “Live each day to the fullest because it could be your last, and always end it with a cocktail.” Mrs. Rhodes was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Vincent “Dick” Rhodes; sister, Mary “Bobbie” Brogdon, of Savannah; and brother, William Howard Reed, Jr., of Nashville, TN. She is survived by her daughter and son–in-law, Mrs. Sandra R. and George Hallen, of Atlanta; sons and daughter-in-law, Dr. Wm. Reed and Chan Nuy Rhodes, of Beijing, China, Thomas R. Rhodes, of Atlanta; sister-in-law, Mrs. Leona Kincaid Rhodes, of Atlanta; five grandchildren, Jeff and Beth Hallen, Chan Trier, Sarak, and Chan Nisai Rhodes; her beloved nieces, Mrs. Betsy Woodward, of Savannah, and Mrs. Anne Henson, of Nashville, TN.
