

Mrs. Beverly Butler Coker, born February 5, 1938 in Atlanta, Georgia died Thursday, December 22, 2016. She was the youngest daughter of the late Vivian Barrett Butler and William James Butler. A 3rd generation native Atlantan, Mrs. Coker attended R.L. Hope Elementary School and North Fulton High School. She was a graduate of Vanderbilt University where she was a member of Kappa Delta sorority. Following her graduation, Mrs. Coker returned to Atlanta where she taught English at Cross Keys High School. In 1965 Mrs. Coker married the late David Lee Coker of Hartwell, South Carolina. An avid gardener and active community volunteer, Mrs. Coker was a member and past president of the Cherokee Garden Club, a founding member and past president of the Cherokee Garden Library, former trustee of the Historic Oakland Foundation and former member of the Board of Overseers of Ben Franklin Academy. She is survived by her daughter, Barrett Coker Krise, her son-in-law, Edward Philip Krise, her son, David Lee Coker, Jr., her daughter-in-law, Cecilie Zwick Coker, and her three grandchildren, Amelia Vivian Krise, Tobias Zwick Coker and Helena Zwick Coker. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 4 at 2:00 p.m. at the Cathedral of St. Philip, 2744 Peachtree Road, Atlanta, Georgia 30305. A reception at the church will immediately follow the service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Cherokee Garden Library c/o Atlanta History Center 130 West Paces Ferry Road NW Atlanta, GA 30305-1366 or to Ben Franklin Academy 1585 Clifton Rd, Atlanta, GA 30329.
