Carol Cooper, age 74, of Atlanta died on March 22, 2012, of pneumonia complicated by congestive heart failure. She was the daughter of the late Julia Young and Carl Sheldon Promnitz. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Dr. Andrew Jackson Cooper, III; her sister, Judith Promnitz Marine; nieces, Linda Spock and Jan Robinson; nephew, Steve Marine; and seven great-nieces and nephews.
One of Mrs. Cooper's lifelong interests was instrumental music. She majored in Music at Agnes Scott College and received her Master's Degree in Music Education from the College Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati. She was a member of Mu Phi Epsilon, an international professional music fraternity, and the Atlanta Music Club. An accomplished musician, Mrs. Cooper taught stringed instruments to many students. She also prepared and carried out numerous music programs at nursing homes, churches, and other venues. She was a longtime member of Morningside Presbyterian Church.
Another area of service for Mrs. Cooper was as a crossing guard for 25 years at the Paideia School in Atlanta where students, parents, teachers, and staff appreciated her outstanding work.
Because of Mrs. Cooper's commitment over the years to pets, it is suggested that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to a charity that benefits pets or to another charity of your choice.
