Charles Wolcott Amason, 91, found eternal “Peace and Happiness” on July 29, 2025, at his home in Decatur. He was born in Columbia, SC and spent his younger years in Atlanta, Athens, and then on to the Georgia coast in Darien.
He graduated in 1951 from Glynn Academy in Brunswick, GA. He then attended North GA college, then transferred to Georgia Tech. Before being drafted he chose to join the US Navy in November of 1954. He enjoyed this experience as a sonarman aboard the diesel submarine USS Tirante out of Key West. He was awarded the American Spirit Honor Medal in January 1955 and was honorably discharged in November 1958. After his military service, he settled back in Darien, GA, working with the family seafood business. On a Sunday afternoon in November of 1961, he unexpectedly met the lovely Anne King from Brunswick at church that day in Darien. In June of the following year, they married and started a wonderful union that lasted for over 63 years. They moved to Atlanta in the spring of 1963 in pursuit of higher education, steady income and starting a family.
In Atlanta, he held several jobs, attended Georgia Tech and graduated with his business degree from GA State University. He most enjoyed his employment and time with Mallory & Evans until he made the decision to venture out on his own in 1979 by starting Amason Mechanical Service. He really enjoyed building this business and all the relationships that came with it. He liked to help others and was satisfied by providing his skill and expertise to solve their issues. He was a self-made man who fully relied on the Lord and who understood and represented the meaning and benefits of hard work.
Outside of work he enjoyed his family and friends, church, sporting events, traveling, his Lion’s Club and spending many weekends at the lake. He lived by never wanting, never wasting, and being committed to whatever you do. He set a great example. He had an infectious smile. He found so much joy with his grandkids; he was always very interested in their lives. He made each of them feel like they were his favorite.
His faith in Jesus was extremely important to him. He was very active in his church as a child, young adult and throughout all his years. He served in many capacities in many churches because he enjoyed it and it was important to him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Guy Holt Amason, Sr. and Shirley Wolcott Amason; his brothers, Guy Holt Amason, Jr., Jackson Lee Amason; and sister Carolyn Amason Smith.
His family that survived him are his wife, Anne King Amason; sons, Charles Wolcott Amason, Jr., Carlton Holt Amason(Cindy), and John Baylor Amason(Shelley); grandchildren, Chandler Holt Amason(Caroline), Carrie Anne Amason, Samuel Baylor Amason, Anna Michelle Amason, Abigail Kate Amason.
