Dana Davis McGee, loving wife, mother and friend, died Friday January 7. Born in Atlanta on February 17, 1941 to Dr. and Mrs. Robert Carter Davis, Dana attended Christ the King School and the Westminster Schools, graduating in 1959. She attended Sophie Newcomb College at Tulane University and pledged Kappa Kappa Gamma, continuing the tradition of her mother and maternal Grandmother, who was a founding member of the chapter. She graduated from the University of Georgia with many lifelong friends and a passionate love for the Bulldogs. After graduation, Dana traveled in Europe, worked in New York, then returned to Atlanta to work for Delta Airlines and the Atlanta Journal. She was a lifelong member of Christ the King Cathedral, serving in the Wedding Guild and as Co-President of Parent Volunteer Association when her children attended Christ the King School. Dana was a member of the Atlanta Debutante Club, the Iris Garden Club, and the Atlanta Junior League where her advocacy on behalf of children was a passion. Dana’s love of learning was legendary. After raising her children, Dana returned to school at Georgia State University where she earned a Masters degree in Heritage Preservation and worked in the archive department of the Georgia Power Company. Dana loved to debate politics, study world affairs with her Great Decisions Group, discuss novels in numerous book clubs with friends (who recount that she was always ready to debate), and quiz her children during family dinners on current events. The questions did not end at dinner as she was a rabid fan of the trivia show Jeopardy! Dana encouraged her children in all their endeavors, from public service to athletic excellence, and could always be seen cheering them at Pace Academy, St. Pius X and The Marist School. Described by friends as, “the cutest girl who ever lived”, she was remembered for a “charming southern personality and a fun loving spirit”, and as her 5yr old grand niece pointed out, “Aunt Dee Dee will be fine. She has a great smile and God likes smiles”. Dana is survived by her beloved husband of 41 years, Patrick Joseph McGee of Atlanta, her four children and daughter-in-law; Patrick Joseph McGee Jr. of Arlington, VA, Alexander Blount and Michelle Stevens McGee of Atlanta, Theodore John McGee of Atlanta, and Kathryn Davis McGee of Arlington, VA.
