Daniel, fondly known as Dan, was born to George and Velma Jones, on September 7, 1944 in Bluefield, West Virginia. He was a shy, but brilliant student and he graduated with honors from East Tennessee State University with a degree in Physics. During his career, Dan completed over four decades of distinguished service with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
Dan was an extraordinarily talented woodworker and spent his retirement building a playhouse for his granddaughters, making furniture, and doting on his family. Dan enjoyed spending time outdoors and was an avid deer hunter, though he rarely had the heart to pull the trigger. He was, above all, a kind and loving husband, father, and grandfather.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Mary Brenda Tipton Jones, his daughter and son-in-law, Nicole and Belfield Carter, and his beloved granddaughters, Mary Tipton, Katie, and Hannah. He is also survived by his brother, Samuel Jones, of South Carolina, and nieces and nephews throughout Tennessee and North Carolina.
The family will receive visitors at Robert Ledford Funeral Home in Unicoi, Tennessee on Saturday, June 10 from 11 a.m. until noon. Dan will then be laid to rest in Peterson Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Lewy Body Dementia Association (lbda.org) in honor of Daniel Jones.
