Anne was born on September 30, 1928 in Leesburg, VA, and graduated in 1950 as a Registered Nurse from the Frederick Nursing School of Frederick, Maryland. She loved the operating room and went through additional plastic surgery training at the Mayo Clinic. She then moved to Duke University Hospital where she met Ewing Barnett, who was her true knight in shining armor and became his bride in 1953. She worked for many years as an RN at the PAPP Clinic in Newnan, GA before moving to Savannah, GA and owning a bed and breakfast for 15 years. Anne was an active member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Newnan, GA and St. John's Episcopal Church in Savannah, GA. She served on the Altar Guild, the Savannah Navy League, and was recognized for her work of 14 years with the Savannah Visitors Center.
Anne was known for her infectious smile and endless energy. Whether it was dancing the jitterbug or taking off in the RV, she was ready for the next adventure. An avid cook, she was known to "make two and share one." She was a wonderful mom and adored her grandchildren. They loved visiting "Nanny" and learning how to make biscuits and apple pie. Baking her sugar cookies is a fun family tradition that will always celebrate her love of family and sharing.
She is survived by her three children, Ewing Smith Barnett, Jr. (Lutricia) of Dunwoody, GA; Betsey Barnett Eastman of Atlanta, GA; and Catherine Barnett Brady (Briggs III) of Glen Rock, NJ; seven beloved grandchildren, Meghan Eastman Elliot (Grant), Kelsey Marie Eastman, Ewing Smith Barnett, III, Lauren Elizabeth Brady, Alexis Nicole Brady, Benjamin Briggs Brady, IV, and Molly Rose Brady; two loving sisters and one brother, Margaret Elgin Smith, Nancy Elgin Cote (Frank), and Roger L. Elgin.
