

Elizabeth Jane Yost Gouldman, age 81, of Atlanta, died March 28, 2016, of complications from an acute infection and sepsis. Jane was a fourth generation Atlantan born August 4, 1934. She was preceded in death by her parents, Emma Laura Wesley and John Vernon Yost; brother, John Wesley Yost; sister-in-law, Anne Yost; brother, Paul Broadwater Yost; and a brother-in-law, Stewart Hurlburt. She attended E. Rivers Elementary and was in the first graduating class at Northside High School in 1953. Jane graduated from the University of Georgia in 1957 with a B.S. in Elementary Education where she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority and the Pandora Beauty Court. She made her debut with the 1954-1955 Atlanta Debutante Club. She met Robert Earl Gouldman on a blind date on July 27, 1955, and they were married on October 6, 1956. She taught in the Atlanta Public Schools at R.L. Hope and Tuxedo Elementary Schools.
Jane was a member of Ansley Golf Club, Highlands Country Club and The National Society of Colonial Dames of America, Rabun Gap-Nacoochee Guild, and Buckhead Heritage Society. However, her priority every week was to attend a women's Bible study group which has met since 1965. In 1978, Jane was the founder of and the inspiration for the Marist Mothers Prayer Group which is still an active group today. She was a member of Peachtree Presbyterian Church and attended the Seeker's Sunday School class and is also an out of town member of Cashiers United Methodist Church. For the last 16 years, she has enjoyed spending summers in Highlands, NC, where she enjoyed playing bridge and couples croquet. Jane was a gracious hostess, an avid reader, and one who never met a stranger. She leaves behind a legacy of hope, faith, courage, and commitment that Jesus Christ can be trusted in the face of insurmountable tribulations. She was devoted to her family and many friends and felt richly blessed by both.
Jane is survived by her devoted husband of 59 years, Robert Earl Gouldman; a son and daughter-in-law, John and Terri Gouldman; a daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Jim Gash; five granddaughters, Emma Laura, Lucy and Alice Gash and Katherine and Elizabeth Gouldman; a sister, Barbara Ann Yost Hurlburt; a sister-in-law, Frances Yost; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 31, 2016, from 6 until 8 o'clock in the evening at H. M. Patterson & Son, Spring Hill, 1020 Spring Street, NW Atlanta, Georgia 30309. A Funeral Service will be held at Peachtree Presbyterian Church on Friday, April 1, 2016, at 11 o'clock in the morning. Graveside service follows immediately at Arlington Memorial Park.
