Ellie Kohler, age 69, passed away on Dec. 14 from a short battle with lung cancer. Born March 9, 1941 in Elgin, Illinois to Jacob and Esther Hagelow, she was a graduate of the University of Illinois in 1963 with a degree in Elementary Education. Ellie and Edwin Philip Kohler II were married on June 27, 1964, and moved to Atlanta. She is survived by her husband, two sons and their wives, Philip and Lois; Eric and Shannon, and four grandchildren, Forde and Rachel; Ethan and Joshua, as well as her younger brother James and his wife Sylvia, and their children, Gretchen, Jake, and Kate. Ellie worked as a teacher and secretary for Atlanta City Schools, Davis International, and Southern Progress magazine. She was an active member of The Lutheran Church of the Redeemer and Ansley Golf Club. She volunteered her time with Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority, Atlanta Alumnae Panhellenic Association, The Decorator’s Showhouse supporting the Atlanta Symphony, Georgia Tech Women’s Club, Silver Lake Garden Club, Innovations Investment Club, and the PTA. Ellie’s “gift of gab” and social charm was treasured by all. Her positive spirit and the love she poured out to everyone she met will be painfully missed. She truly was a saint. A memorial service will be held on Monday, Dec. 20, 11:00 am, at Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 731 Peachtree Street, Atlanta. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation; PO Box 38, Columbus, OH 43216.
