
Eloise Ellis Simons, a native Atlantan passed away on December 13, 2010. She was born June 14, 1921, the daughter of the late Frampton Erroll Ellis and Eloise Oliver Ellis of Atlanta. Growing up in Ansley Park, she attended Spring Street Elementary School, Washington Seminary and Sweet Briar College. She graduated from the University of Georgia in 1943, where she was a member of the Phi Mu Sorority. Her husband, Charles Read Simons, preceded her in death. Mr. and Mrs. Simons were married 55 years. During the early years of their marriage they resided in Gainesville, Georgia and returned to Atlanta in 1960. Mrs. Simons was a member of the Cathedral of St. Philip, the Atlanta Junior League, the Piedmont Driving Club, the Sea Island Club, and the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Mrs. Simons enjoyed going to her childhood vacation home on St. Simons Island and later on Sea Island, where she spent wonderful times with her family. Many happy hours were spent attending Georgia Tech functions and events with her husband. They traveled frequently to Europe, often with their children in tow, and even brought home several Longhaired Dachshunds for family pets. Mr. and Mrs. Simons often stayed at the same hotels in England, France and Italy and made life-long friends in every town. Her great loves were her husband, children, and grandchildren.
She is survived by her four children and their families: Charles Read Simons, Jr. and his daughter Catherine Ellis Simons (Cat); Alan Mitchell Simons and Catherine Norman Simons and their daughter Catherine Marshall Simons (Cate); Eloise Ellis Simons Eager and L. Prentice Eager, III and their children Eloise Oliver Eager Foltz and her husband Michael S. Foltz, and William Prentice Eager and his wife Elizabeth G. Eager (Liz); and Frampton Ellis Simons and Elizabeth Black Simons (Libby) and their children Frampton Ellis Simons, Jr., Henry Grady Simons, and Elizabeth Schuyler Simons. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Frampton Erroll Ellis, Jr., John Oliver Ellis, and Edward Prioleau Ellis.
The family will have a private interment at Westview Cemetery. A
Memorial Service will be held Thursday December 16, 2010 at 2:00 o’clock at the Cathedral of St. Philip. The family will receive friends at 1:00 o’clock in the Gould Room. A reception will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Simons Land Trust, P. O. Box 24615, St. Simons Island, GA 31522.
