Everett Duane Thompson, 78, passed away on January 12, 2022. Duane was preceded in death by his mother, Opal; his father, Everett; and his sister, Susan. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Takacs Thompson, his two sons Matthew (Erika) and Andrew (Kyle) and four grandchildren – Hollis, Everett, Leighton, and Finley.
Duane was born and raised in Sesser, IL. While getting his business degree from Southern Illinois University, he worked for his family business, Sesser Concrete Products. After deciding to pursue a career in healthcare, he moved to Atlanta to attend Georgia State University and obtain his Masters in Healthcare Administration. He spent the rest of his career in healthcare operations and administration holding several executive roles throughout Atlanta’s healthcare market, including Egleston Children’s Hospital (now Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta) and Piedmont Hospital. After retiring from Piedmont Hospital, he and Nancy bought a condo in Nashville and split time between Atlanta and Nashville to stay close to family. His passions were spending time with his family (especially spoiling his grandchildren), going to the beach, and watching Vanderbilt sports.
A visitation for Duane will be held Friday, January 20, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at H.M. Patterson & Son-Oglethorpe Hill Chapel, 4550 Peachtree Road NE, Atlanta, GA 30319. A funeral service will occur Saturday, January 20, 2023 at 12:30 PM at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, 1406 Hearst Dr NE, Atlanta, GA 30319. A burial service will follow at Arlington Memorial Park in Sandy Springs, GA 30328. A celebration will be held after the burial service.
