Fred W. Borrish, 98, of Douglasville, Ga., died October 9, 2012. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 12 at 11 a.m. in the Swilley Chapel at Second Ponce de Leon Baptist Church in Atlanta; interment will follow at Westview Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service. Dr. Borrish worked as a mechanical engineer at Delta Air Lines from Sept. 1939 to July 1976. Longtime supporters of educational endeavors, he and his wife Aileen Kasper Borrish have a special interest in the academic programs at Mercer University, particularly Mercer’s Douglas County Regional Academic Center. Since 1982, Fred and Aileen have been members of The President’s Club at Mercer University, and, in 1999, they became Life Members. Dr. Borrish said the Regional Academic Center provided a chance for working individuals to get a quality education to expand their professional careers while still keeping their part- or full-time jobs. Moreover, the Fred W. and Aileen K. Borrish Building, which houses the Douglas County Regional Academic Center, was dedicated in their honor in 2007 as well as the Fred W. and Aileen K. Borrish Science Laboratory, a state-of-the-art science center, which the Borrishes generously funded. Dr. Borrish also received an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Mercer in 2005 for his steadfast support. Fred and Aileen also established the Fred W. and Aileen Kasper Borrish Endowed Scholarship at Agnes Scott College. He was a member of Second Ponce de Leon Baptist Church, Hapeville Lodge No. 590, the F&A Masons and the Yaarab Shrine Temple. He was preceded in death by his brother, George Borrish, nephews, Lawrence Borrish and Stephen Kasper and his brother-in-law, George H. Kasper, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Aileen Kasper Borrish and her family members, Dorothy, Leslie, Christopher, Samuel, Richard, Erin, Holly, George and Cheryl. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Borrish Endowment, Douglas Center Mercer University, 1400 Coleman Avenue, Macon GA 31207.
