
Frederick Augustus Hoyt, Jr., age 88 of Atlanta, died on July 25, 2011 at his residence after a brief illness. Mr. Hoyt was born in Atlanta on April 8, 1923, the son of Frederick Augustus Hoyt, Sr. and Lucy Dancy Hoyt. A true native, he lived in Atlanta all of his life except for his years in military service of his country. He graduated from the Darlington School and thereafter attended the Georgia Institute of Technology, where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II, where he served in the Pacific. After the war, he returned to Atlanta and thereafter met and married his wife of 64 years, the former Sara Alice Jordan of Raleigh, NC. in 1947. His career was spent mainly in the insurance business and as a trust officer with Trust Company of Georgia, the predecessor to SunTrust Bank. In addition to his widow, he is survived by his children Walter Jordan Hoyt (Judy) of Marietta, GA; Dancy Hoyt Wynne (Charlie) of Gainesville, GA; and William Dancy Hoyt (Angie) of Atlanta; grandchildren Sara Wynne Billingsley (Jacob); Polly Hoyt Nance (Ricky); Dr. Walter Jordan Hoyt, Jr.; Julia Padgett Wynne; Frederick Augustus (Bo) Hoyt, II; and Emily Remshart Hoyt; great grandchildren Rush and Lennon Nance and Wynne and Thompson Billingsley. He is also survived by his sister Frances Hoyt Shropshire of Atlanta and numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, as well as his son, Frederick Augustus (Gus) Hoyt, III; and sister Julia Hoyt Holt. He was a member of the Cathedral of St. Philip Episcopal Church in Atlanta, the Episcopal Church of the Incarnation in Highlands, NC, the Piedmont Driving Club, Nine O'Clocks, and Highlands Country Club. His commitment and generosity benefitted many charitable organizations in Atlanta and beyond; however his proudest legacy is undoubtedly his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and extended family who were the center of his life and who cherish his memory and kind and caring manner. Graveside services will be held at Westview Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 28 2011, with The Reverend Brian C. Sullivan officiating. The family will receive friends at Westview after the the graveside service.
