

Genevieve McAfee Coppedge, known to her many friends as “Genny”, died on Saturday, November 13, 2010, at the age of 89. She is predeceased by her husband of 54 years, James Andrew Coppedge, Jr., who died in 2001. She is survived by her daughter, Andrea Price; son-in-law, Roby Price; son, Ferrell Coppedge; daughter-in-law, Libby Coppedge; four grandchildren, Matt, John, Ben and Anne Coppedge; two grand-daughters-in-law, Julie Coppedge (Matt) and Rebecca Coppedge (John); two great grand-children, Cade and Elle Coppedge (Matt), her two sisters-in-law, Dot Powell and Jackie Brunson, and many special friends. Genny was born in Dallas, Texas but spent most of her childhood in Dalton, Georgia until her physician father died. She returned to Atlanta and later lived in Douglasville and Decatur, Georgia. As a young woman during the war, she worked at Ft. McPherson. Before retirement in 1984, she worked with the University System of Georgia Board of Regents as Administrative Assistant to the Treasurer of the Board. She was a faithful, supportive mom of her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events and loved Georgia Tech football where she and Andy had season tickets. She was an active member of Peachtree Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Martha Wilson Bible Class. She moved from her home in Decatur in 2004 to Canterbury Court where she enjoyed many friends and especially their parties where she could dance. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 17, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at H.M. Patterson & Son Oglethorpe Hill. A graveside service will be held at Westview Cemetery at 11:00 on Thursday, November 18, followed by a Memorial Service at 2:30 in the sanctuary of Peachtree Presbyterian Church, officiated by Dr. Steve Huntley and Rev. Vicki Harrington Franch. A reception will follow in the Williams Center.
