Gladys Margaret McKenzie Kitchens

Gladys Margaret (McKenzie) Kitchens, 89, of Brookhaven, GA, passed away October 16, 2015 at 7am of natural causes. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Mike L. Kitchens and her son, Steven Kitchens. She is survived by her son, Dennis Kitchens, daughter-in-law Dena Kitchens, grandchildren Graham Kitchens (Kendall), Bailee Lauersdorf (Zachry), Taylor Kitchens, Matthew Kitchens, and Samantha Kitchens, and great-grandson Maximilian Kitchens as well as a large number of brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews. Margaret worked many years as a data entry operator at Hartford Insurance and Georgia Power/Southern Company. After retirement, she soon rejoined the workforce as a teacher at Brookhaven United Methodist Child Development Center, continuing until the week of her death. A faithful member of Brookhaven United Methodist Church, Margaret shared God’s love with a multitude of children in the church nursery as well as the CDC. She raised 2 children of her own, spoiled 5 grandchildren, fell head over heels with 1 great-grandchild, and loved countless other children over the years. She worked the last week of her life and lived in her own house up until the last day. Not a bad 89 years. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 20 at 11 o’clock at Brookhaven United Methodist Church. Interment Arlington Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers the family asks donations be made to Brookhaven United Methodist Church or Brookhaven UMC Child Development Center. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 5:30 to 7:30 at H.M. Patterson & son, Oglethorpe Hill, 4550 Peachtree Road, NE, Brookhaven, Georgia, 30319.
