Dr. H. Dale Richardson

Dr. H. Dale of Atlanta, passed away peacefully at his home on January 29, 2014, after an extended illness. He was born in Charlotte, North Carolina, on December 1, 1930, to Walter and Dollie Mae Richardson. Dr. Richardson graduated from Emory University in 1951 and from Emory University School of Medicine in 1955. He served in the U.S. Air Force as a neurosurgeon in the 1960s. Upon returning to Atlanta, he practiced neurosurgery at Emory University and was an Associate Professor of Neurological Surgery. Thereafter, he was in private practice at Piedmont Hospital. Dr. Richardson practiced medicine for over 50 years. He loved practicing medicine and was passionate about neurosurgery and delivering the highest quality of care to his patients. He was past Chairman of the Neuroscience Department at Piedmont Hospital and founder and past Director of the Gamma Knife Unit. He was a past president of the Georgia Neurosurgical Society and served on the Board of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons. Dr. Richardson was pre-deceased by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn. They would have celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary the day after he passed away. Dr. Richardson is also survived by his sons, Jeffrey D. Richardson, of Atlanta, Dr. Daniel D. Richardson, of Washington, North Carolina, and daughter, Stephanie K. Richardson, of Atlanta. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Julia, Caroline, Lucy, William, and Anne Richardson, and Austin and Kelly Brown. Dr. Richardson was a licensed pilot and an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed quail hunting, fishing and sailing outings with his sons and grandchildren. The Richardsons were active members of Peachtree Road United Methodist Church, the Piedmont Driving Club, and the Capital City Club, and Dr. Richardson was active in the Atlanta Rotary Club. Donations may be made to a charity of your choice. The funeral will be held at H.M. Patterson & Son, Spring Hill Chapel on Monday, February 3 at 1:00 pm. The family will have visitation on Sunday, February 2 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at H.M. Patterson & Son, Spring Hill.
